Hero Dog of The Year
WAFTC occasionally recognizes a heroic act performed by one of our canine friends; this year the WAFTC Hero Dog Award is presented to Carol Heule and "THIS BUD'S FOR ME MH MNH".
On October 9, 2008, Carol was cleaning the boat while her constant companion, THIS BUD'S FOR ME MH MNH, was lazily waiting for her to finish her chores. Suddenly, a freakish accident occurred and Carol found herself falling from the boat onto the ground. Carol sensed this was no simple accident and realized that something was seriously wrong. Carol also had a sense that she should not move for fear of further injury, but with no one nearby to hear her pleas for help, what could she do? "Bud" somehow new that Carol was in distress and started barking, howling and just making a raucous. "Bud's" animated antics got the attention of several neighbors who came down to the lake to investigate then promptly called "911". In the end, Carol fully recovered from a broken neck and credits her hero, THIS BUD'S FOR ME MH MNH, with saving her life.
